I'm wondering why they changed the sensor area. Looks more like the area that's on the black iPhone 4. I've never had any issues with the sensor area with any of the several white iPhone 4 front panels that I've received.
On my white conversion, the proximity sensor would start giving proximity alerts at a rate of several per second. Did you try something like Proximity Counter app on your conversions? Or attempt calling a computer that expects number responses (that's where it was extremely noticeable for me, the screen flickering on and off continuously while I was trying to input numbers, argh)?
LCD: What a terrible looking display - back light bleeding not so much as terrible diffusion / light scatter - you can clearly see the LEDs themselves - bleeding I usually associate with a spot or two from poor extinction ratios - but that thing is... ack. As for the white balance bit with a white surround, I've yet to notice this effect while using any of my white iMacs, and have not seen it on the white Macbooks...
The LCD and backlight are *highly* unlikely to be even remotely different from the black iPhone 4. The only difference is a different colour of paint on the underside of the front glass layer that's bonded in the backlight/lcd/touch/glass sandwich (well, and a white plastic surround instead of black)
Lozenge Shaped Sensor: Huh? It looks no different from the sensor in my black iPhone. Hold a flashlight up to the front - it's in the same shape, and location, as this white iPhone... Only difference being, it's a lot easier to spot on the white one.
Yup, that's exactly the point. On the earlier white iPhones and publicity shots, the sensor area *wasn't* the same as on the black one. Check it:

I have no idea what you are trying to achieve since no matter how much you try to justify it or post false specs and prices, it won't make the SP Mac Pro any better value. It costs a lot more than Dell's equivalent. Period.
Better value is the sum of Hardware + Operating System + Software = Performance
Paper spec used to interest me at one time too, then I grew up. ;)

Apple's response will be to delay the movie download service for about 1 year just to make it look like Steve Beeks didn't know what he's talking about.
I hope I'm wrong about that.
No, you're right-- it'll be remembered as the "asteroid" of 2006.

is there somewhere in vegas a bet going who's first? vista or leopard? and who has more bugs at release day?
I think the greater impact would occur if Apple released its product just after Vista amid the confusion of people wondering which version of the MS OS to buy. People procrastinating could then finally realize that the much simpler option is to buy a Mac and not be confronted with not only the question of which make and model to stretch their hard earned money on, but also which version of the Vista OS they want with that, and whether it will actually run satisfactorily on the computer they are buying.
I know that I for one would not be want to be faced with yet another PC owner's dilemma. Thank goodness I run a Mac.:D

As so many other posters, the fact is that you have no idea what transpired. The driver is prima facie guilty of attempted murder. Nothing more needs to be said. I do not understand the number of otherwise reasonable people here who are blaming the victim.
Yes you are right, the husband is obviously guilty of attempted murder. I'm just saying that in this case the guy should be let go. Call me a monster who believes in eugenics, but people who are stupid pollute the gene pool don't deserve to exist. Someone who throws themselves on a car is, to use your termonology, prima facie guilty of being an idiot; and therefore does not deserve to exist and pollute the gene pool (in my belief system at least).

As much as the White iPhone 4 is sexy, I guess my dream of an Aluminum-back iPhone 4 is shattered... At least for the time being. I would love to see a white front with aluminum backing...

Here is another way of stopping the whine (for a short time):
TURN ON BLUETOOTH and use a mouse!
At the office i work with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
When using a mouse it stops permanent.
At home i work without it and turn normaly bluetooth off.
Now i descovered that when i turn on bluetooth the whine stops ...
But when not using a bluetooth device it comes back after some time.
Getting stranger every minute ....
Actually this used to be a macbook pro problem only.
After the efi firmware update it seems to spread to the macbooks (white, 1.83 here)

2 JUST came out and people are already wanting a new one? Is the 2 really that horrible?
The camera's do honestly suck. And the lack of Retina display is disappointing.

If I went on a protest in Washington DC or London claiming Tibetan independence from China and that the Han Chinese should leave I would be cheered on, if I went on a protest claiming Kashmiri independence from India/Pakistan and saying that non-Kashmiris should leave I wouldn't be bothered. If I went on a protest saying that the Jews had to leave Israel and go back to Europe I'd be lynched.
If its outrageous to make the Jews leave Israel then its outrageous to make the Han Chinese leave Tibet and I don't think most Americans would agree that the two are equivalent.
Frankly I think that looks like there's a pro-Jewish bias in US culture - and I'm not even looking at the military aid etc. etc.

There seems to be a bit of beer snobbery going on here. I don't particularly like stouts (apart from the odd Caffrey's) and don't like standard lagers, the likes of Tennents, Carling, McEwans... but I will drink a Bud. It's cheap mass produced fizzy water, but hey it's better than not having a beer. I also like Fosters, Carlsberg, and Rolling Rock (which if anybody knows where to get them in this country I'd be eternally grateful).
I've been in Belgium and had a Hoegaarden and didn't particularly like it. I've been in Leuvern and had a Stella and it was much better than the Welsh copy you get in this country... but I'd still drink it. But Jupiler is by far my favorite!:)

Based on murmurings and mooings on the pro sites, I reckon Apple will lose some customers to Avid, if they had originally come from Avid some time in the last 10 years. They're talking about going back to Avid, not to Avid.
I also reckon every kid who has used iMovie in the last few years will start using FCP X in about July. This is the next generation of video editors, and they will far outnumber Avid users. They will be making movies for web distribution. They will be flooding the film schools. They will also have the mad skillz (look at me, sounding like a teenager :D) to turn things over really quickly, something which is appreciated in today's editing environment.
Apple has built FCP X for people who have never used film and probably never will so the metaphor needed to go. Bye-bye bins, hello "smart folders". And a big hello to the do-deca-core, 8TB, 32GB Mac Pro everyone can now justify purchasing.
i second this as well.
as a side note, most of the editors i know don't think twice about switching back and forth btn fcp and avid based on the project /client requirements regardless of their particular preference.
ultimately the result of apples move will only come to light after the software is released and peeps get their hand on it. everything now is just looking at screenshots.

Apple update tax - Apple does not lower price (rarely) on the model cycles, making it out of sync (read: more expensive) against component and competitor prices towards end of cycle
This is in part offset by the ridiculously high prices of used MacPros. Unparalleled by any other computer. A two year old Nehalem base spec still goes for close to $2000. Nearly 80% of original retail value.
But yeah, the single CPU model is horribly expensive. There is no reason why it can't be priced at $1999

I tried some of the Boddingtons Pub Ale when I was in Canada a few years ago, rather different from the version we have over here.
I wonder if that is the same version we get in the states? I also really like Old Speckled Hen Ale also. I don't know if they are the same from across the pond thou even thou it says it is brewed there.

Restart your mac.
Thx for the hint, that did the trick. App works fine now. Great app btw.
At MBP restart the EyeTV 3.2 asked for WiFi permission. The update to 3.2 (btw failed the first time) did not require a restart of the machine.
