Wait so, how are we supposed to report No Coverage in an area with, well, no coverage?

You can report it later. Give them details in the comments section.

Yeah... bending it in half? Eh.. ok. But taking off the back to do it? Fail. You can't remove the sturdiest part of the product and then say "hey look, it blended!"

Pointless anyway... it's just an advertisement.

Would those 1000s of people still wanted an EV1 if GM was charging enough to break even on them? Or charging enough such that within 5 or 6 years GM could turn it into a profitable business?

I will agree that the price would have to be 'front-loaded', because there would be less than the usual new buys after that 5 or 6 years.

The vehicle would last long enough for people to actually get tired of driving it, and want something new. Unlike now, when they are forced to buy new, due to mechanical wear and tear.

Plugging the sales numbers 10 years out, into their computer models, would scare the bejesus out of everyone in the industry, and the share-holders too.

More to the point, why is winning so important to you that you would be prepared to kill for it? You are the very reason we need our legal protections.

So, your ok with being held against your will, if harm might come to the perpetrator??

This appears on the cusp of kidnapping.

How is that exactly? Its a MacBook with a stand and a bigger screen. How is it not for personal use?

Well, yeah, you kind of made my point for me.

It combines the awesome power of a laptop with the portability, ease of installation, and desktop requirements of a desktop. The MacBook, in hardware terms, is a compromise. The key feature of it is portability. It's not a great computer, but it's "good enough" and, when combined with portability, is a great system.

A personal user is either going to want to spend $900-1,000 on a moderately powerful desktop optimised for personal use (which the $900 iMac isn't, with its choice of optical drive, low hard disk capacity, and lack of modern graphics), or a good laptop (which, again, the iMac isn't.) From an institutional point of view, however, the portability is a liability, but the fact the machine comes with everything all pre-installed with minimum set up other than the "locating a spot for it" (which is inherently done in offices anyway) means it's ideally suited to that.

That's what makes it great for institutions. It's not that a personal user can't use it, it's that, at the price point, there are machines far better suited to personal users than the $900 iMac.

My real concern at the moment is the lack of a desktop in that space from Apple. A "high end" Mac mini really is needed.

It's leftover from Prohibition. Heck, the state didn't even officially legalize alcohol again until the 50s.

Prohibition? Thank Gawd there are no leftovers from that up here.

    Netflix advantages:
    - available on a lot of platforms (Xbox360, PS3, Wii, :apple:TV, iPhone/iPod touch/iPad, some set-top boxes, Silverlight)
    - low cost (around 10$ per month, unlimited streaming)

    Netflix disadvantages:
    - only available in USA and Canada (extremely limited selection in Canada)

    Apple advantages:
    - could be launched in a lot of countries (probably everywhere there currently is an iTunes Store)
    - already have a lot of iTunes Store user accounts worldwide

    Apple disadvantages:
    - would probably require an Apple-made device to access the content (bonus: no Silverlight installation required on Mac), as I don't see Apple making an app for the Xbox360, PS3, Wii and other set-top boxes (they'd rather sell you an :apple:TV)
    - their servers are located in the USA, so I don't know if it's enough to serve streaming media worldwide. Do they currently have servers in other countries for the international iTunes Stores?

Technical issues aside, however, it all boils down to selection and price.

Random Internet source says sun will rise in the west, so thousands of websites report that random source says sun will rise in the west.

Then when some other random source tells you that's probably not the case, same thousands of websites report what you already damn well knew because you had a compass and a pair of eyes.

Seriously, I know they're rumors, but why don't things that fit into the "This seems way out of left field and it would take a lot of confirmation to believe it's true" category get some flashing neon sign that indicates as such? That's why I'm highly skeptical of these iPhone 5 rumors. It smells just like the "iPad 3 in fall 2011" rumors from a couple of months ago.

    Thanks for the answer

Is there a reason why they're sticking with mobile RAM and GPU? Is it part of some Eco power saving strategy, or is there a different reason?
Do you like when your iMac work quiet that you even don't hear it? So, Apple use CPU TDP 65Watt, not the really fast ones and mobile GPU to have TDP as low as possible, so it's won't get hot there. iMac it's a big portable, it's not really a desktop horse. Apple can't install in iMac fast i7 CPU like 2600k 3.4Ghz because it's 95Watt TDP, they go with 2600S 2.8Ghz with 65Watt TDP.

    From http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookproefifirmwareupdate12.html and http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookefifirmwareupdate10.html:

After the firmware update is successfully applied to your computer, your Boot ROM Version will be:

    MBP11.0055.B08 (MacBook Pro 15 inch)
    MBP12.0061.B03 (MacBook Pro 17 inch)
    MB11.0061.B03 (MacBook)

So, this is apparently just for the first-generation MacBooks (MBP11, MB11, etc.). The second-generation (e.g., MBP22) do not need the update:

My MBP Core2 Duo lists its Boot ROM Version as:

    MBP22.00A5.B00

    http://www.macrumors.com/images/macrumorsthreadlogo.gif (http://www.macrumors.com)

The design of the Nike+iPod Sport Kit (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/05/20060523003420.shtml) leaves it vulnerable to potential surveillance (http://uwnews.washington.edu/ni/article.asp?articleID=28494) of the wearer, according to a team led by University of Washington doctoral student T. Scott Saponas.

Their research report (http://www.cs.washington.edu/research/systems/privacy.html) describes the potential for privacy and personal security problems if the transmissions of the in-shoe sensor are intercepted. The sensor is designed to transmit a unique code, identifying the shoe and therefore its wearer, to an iPod. The wearer may not realize that the sensor is normally on (it can be switched off), and that another person or monitoring system could track their location from as far as 60 feet away.

The report describes demonstration systems that Saponas and his research partners set up. One such system monitors the signals, identifies the wearer by the unique code, and uploads the data to a server that uses Google Maps to pinpoint and track the wearer's location in real-time.

According to the report, the Nike+iPod designers could have used simple cryptographic techniques to avoid or lessen these potential problems.

The 750 HD option is on the Mac Pro as well as the 24" iMac. If I didn't know any better, I'd say they changed the layout on several of their store pages too.

Well I'm a pro user and i welcome the new FCP and it's price.
I have a decent budget since I work for a corporation.
If I lost my job or decided to go on my own, $299 would make it easier to deal with than a seat with Avid.
Ive had the luxury of having full support with Avid since 2001 plus Digidesign and Autodesk/Alias Maya totaling at roughly 6k per year.
If anyone thinks that Apple is dropping the price to get out of the pro biz then maybe it's time to try something else.

Then get a nano? Alu exterior, even smaller than before, better battery life, small LCD display...

Unless if you're asking for something like a nano at the price of a shuffle. Then keep dreaming.
I have a SanDisk player about the size of a shuffle, but with a screen, radio and voice recorder. It runs on one AAA battery. It cannot do playlists, it is only folders of mp3 and wma files. Radio almost never work indoors. It comes with in-ear headphones that are too big for my ears. The new version with 1GB capacity is selling for only $55 at Amazon. The new one even seems to have a color screen. Unless iTunes compatibility is important for you, it is not a bad deal just due to the screen. I guess Apple could add a screen and still sell shuffle for $79 or have a 1GB nano for $99.

Not everyone can afford to develop something. That doesn't mean their idea is worthless and they shouldn't patent it. OTOH, there are only so many ways of doing certain things and being able to patent "3 finger gestures" is flipping ridiculous, IMO. In fact, I think most software patents are ridiculous in that they just abstract ideas without any specific way to achieve them. Programming should mostly fall under copyright, not patents, IMO. Smart phone layouts patentable? UGH. You might as well just let someone patent a suit and tie.... It's ridiculous anymore. Small businesses generally don't stand a chance under litigation even when they're right because the big guy can drive them out of business with legal fees. The whole system sucks.

    I agree
That's why a system without any patents would be a lot better and fairer than it is now.
There shouldn't be such a system, things would be a lot cheaper.
I live in Asia most of the time where copies of many things are available, those people just can not afford those ridiculous 1st world prices.
Especially Songs, software are notorious for being so costly.

Before I start making reports, I'll throw this question to the inter-webs and see what the mob thinks.

When I was with Verizon, I got service everywhere. Never a dropped call.

With AT&T, I get no service inside big retail stores. If I'm at Target, Walmart, K-Mart, the grocery store, etc, I get no bars and the "No Service" message. As soon as I'm outside the store, I get 100% 3G service and Bars.

My question is, is it resonable to expect AT&T to try to improve service inside stores?
