Apple has also added a 750GB hard disk for the Mac Pro for $399.00 and the 500GB now sells for $199.00 in bay 1. For bays 2 - 4 the prices are $599 and $399.

Basically what WinterMute said! If taking the light was good enough for the Australians when they were trying to win the game, then it's easily good enough for the English who only need to draw!
And as for complaining about the weather! I'm amazed there's been this much play in the series :D

Bad move...
Obviously, there is huge demand for cheaper Macs. Cheap doesn't equal bad!
Mac minis should start at $399
iMacs should start at $899
MacBooks should start at $799
MacBook Pros should start at $1499
Mac Pros should start at $1499
There is no reason this wouldn't work.

Personally, I wish they would have just made the old one smaller...I think the old one being like a jump drive/mp3 player was pretty handy. Really besides the size and shape there is nothing new here...Too bad.
Same... I'm glad I have my little flash/mp3 player. I've used it many many times allready. Because I allways have my shufflewith me, and draging around a little dock thing isn't really handy to me.
Kinda sucks they took away the 512 model, scrolling through 200+ songs doesn't sound like it would be fun. I get annoyed with my 512 sometimes(though I absolutely love it deerly) scrolling. I will be buying the new nano just for podcasts i think.

Thats because many, many people purchase Apple computers for the same reason they buy designer jeans or luxury cars- they want to be SEEN with it.
You really think anyone would pay more for a luxury car if they couldn't impress others with it?? Any car can get you from A to B, and most do it with an equal level of dependability. It's convincing those with low self esteem to spend more than they have to just to make themselves feel better about themselves that has helped luxury automobiles.....and Apple.
I don't think many on this board bought an Apple for that reason, but there are millions out there that did. And you can find most of them in public attempting to "strut their stuff".
You must have never driven a luxury car?
LMAO
Getting you to the same point is not the purpose, hell a bus can do that ..why dont all of us low self esteem car drivers just get on the darn bus, apple shmapple?! I mean doesnt a bus get you the same places as a car?
What a load of crock.

-1 Wrong. They still have distribution costs of the printed version and printing alone accounts for about 25% of their costs.
They just don't have the model down right for one. I agree with others, it should be cheaper than the print version and/or be free when you subscribe to the print version.
The other issue they have is the value of printed magazines is quickly dying. So much information is available for free, it's hard to justify investment in general magazines unless there are specific articles you like to read or it's specialized, like Playboy for example! :D
Oh... wait... that's only going to be available for the future iPad Touch! :p
Umm, printing is 25% of the cost and Apple takes 30%. Add in the bulk mailing per issue, which is very little, and it won't equal what Apple takes. yet people want these magazine companies to take less. Apple reduces their take and we'll see prices per mag go down.

There is no equivalence. Her choices did not endanger his life in any way.
You look for equivalence where we have stated none. We have simply stated that her choices endangered her own life. She is a victim of herself. That is our only point.
End thread in my case. I will excuse your posts from my browser using my CP.

Well, I just started playing it and it won't play smooth on my 2009 27"iMac i5 (8GB ram) at 1920x1080 (8x or 6x AA and AF), so i'm gradually reducing the graphics options to see how low i have to go to get it to run nicely - shame - forget 2560x1440! Wonder if newer iMacs will have better luck with 5 series GPUs. Guess its back to playing it on my PC's GTX580!

There should be. However not left as vague things and they have to be used or lost. Why patent something if you have no intent of developing? It hinders progress.
Not everyone can afford to develop something. That doesn't mean their idea is worthless and they shouldn't patent it. OTOH, there are only so many ways of doing certain things and being able to patent "3 finger gestures" is flipping ridiculous, IMO. In fact, I think most software patents are ridiculous in that they just abstract ideas without any specific way to achieve them. Programming should mostly fall under copyright, not patents, IMO. Smart phone layouts patentable? UGH. You might as well just let someone patent a suit and tie.... It's ridiculous anymore. Small businesses generally don't stand a chance under litigation even when they're right because the big guy can drive them out of business with legal fees. The whole system sucks.

No - Your Steam games can be downloaded whenever you like to whatever computer you are using.
So, if your Mac crashes and you wipe the HDD, you reinstall Steam and re-download for free.
Or, if you migrate to a Windows box, reinstall Steam and re-download for free.
Buy once, play anywhere.
I'll even go up you on how awesome Steam is! Don't forget SteamPlay.
I have a gaming PC and a Mac, and I can play any cross platform game on either platform with ONE copy of the game! If I had a third Mac or Pc in the mix, so be it. Astoundingly awesome. Every time I quit / save my game on one computer, I can pick up where I left off on the other. I can't put enough emphasis on how awesome that is.
And you never lose your game or get stiffed with a "digital backup fee" to re-download your game. You can download them as much as you want. Hell, I upgraded my gaming PC 3 times in 6 years and each time I re-downloaded Halflife-2.

I had the 11" air and the 12" powerbook...Loved the powerbook so much more than the air. The air was simply too small for me.
I have been really wanting to pick up the 13". Great at everything.
Fair enough... but considering how much I liked the puny Vaio P, I shouldn't have an issue with that :-)

Agree with you on one point, I dont think there will be a flash storage ipod for some time, but maybe a Harddrive with built in NAND like what we are starting to see on notebooks.
Don't have smart-cards have small HDDs inside? This is small enough for a phone in my opinion.

All beer sucks. That beer has been dressing itself up like wine for the last few decades or so is hysterical. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. IMO, there's no difference between Budweiser and Chimay, except that Chimay manages to be even more disgusting. Don't even get me started on crap like Guinness. And before anyone says anything, I used to work in good restaurants for 20 years, I've had just about every beer you can think of- all of them are nasty. Beer is the only beverage that tastes even worse the more you pay. Hey- I tried it. :p:p:p:p
Beer is easily the worst alcoholic beverage on the face of the planet, right next to grappa.
So working in a restaurant makes an opinion like this valid?
Pretty close minded view, imo. Oh, and Guinness isn't beer, as alluded to earlier in the thread,
:)

Well, anybody who needs a DP workstation, anyway (you can't do dual i7s). I suppose you can make this argument for SP machines (SP i7 vs. SP Xeon), but two things:
1. SP workstation Xeons practically have pricing parity with their i7 equivalents, so it doesn't really matter much in the end. In reality, they're the same processors, only one has ECC memory support and one does not. Also, the W35xx Xeons run on the same Intel X58 chipsets the i7-9xx chips do. Overall manufacturing cost is essentially the same.
Example: The Xeon W3530 (2.8GHz) used on the base quad-core model is $294 (1000-part tray quantity) from Intel. Its i7 equivalent, the i7-930 is priced identically, at $294. Spec for spec, these chips are IDENTICAL, save for the Xeon's ECC memory support.
Exactly.
Apple's charging quite a premium for the SP systems vs. other vendors. DP systems are far closer in costs, but the PC versions do offer better warranties, better graphics choices (professional grade, not just consumer), and additional options (if purchased from the system vendor for a single point of contact for support needs).
2. As mentioned before, workstation computer buyers expect workstation-class hardware, not consumer-class. So that means Xeons, ECC memory and a heavy duty platform.
Generally speaking, this is true. But ECC isn't needed by all workstation users, such as creative professionals (don't use software based on recursive algorithms). Thus such users don't actually require Xeons (SP systems; no choice for DP models) or ECC memory of any kind (well built, reliable system Yes, but an Enthusiast Desktop part and standard non-ECC memory would suffice).
Perhaps the biggest anomaly with Mac Pros is Apple's continued use of consumer-grade GPUs in their configurations. With PC workstations, it's practically given that you'll get a FireGL or a Quadro. But that's an entirely different discussion...
In terms of using consumer grade graphics cards in workstations, it's definitely an anomaly.
As per whether or not it's a separate discussion, it would depend on the user's specific needs IMO. ;)
