This one is for the materials science geeks on this forum. I had a look back to this patent where Apple was researching Carbon fibre shells:
http://www.macrumors.com/2009/04/30/apple-researching-carbon-fiber-composite-materials-for-exterior-shells/
I was also looking at how long they've been working with Liquid metal:
http://m.gizmodo.com/5608322/is-apple-working-on-liquid-metal-terminators-or-what
And it seems to me that they are pursuing BOTH technologies with equal effort. It seemed strange to me that they would put so much effort into to two technologies when they would likely only use one for cases/structural requirements.
And thenI found this excerpt from a book which describes how to fuse carbon fibre with metal alloys to create a sandwich which is similar to the first patent l linked to above.:
http://books.google.com.au/books?id=aCm9yvodiJcC&pg=PA192&lpg=PA192&dq=liquid+metal+carbon+fibre+sandwich&source=bl&ots=qo5jE32X5e&sig=DFK_MIvPzfsvjjgl445HD_urpHU&hl=en#v=onepage&q&f=false
Based on all this, my guess is that apple is making some kind of fusion casing material that will be mouldable like liquid metal, have the extra strength of carbon fibre, and have the strength/weight properties of both. That would also explain some of the "darker" metal/liquid metal pics that have been floating around.
What do you think?
Cool. Thanks for contributing something insightful and interesting, MikeELL (unlike some folks--like me).

Thanks for the link - I'll read it later when I have more time and time to mull things over.
I unfortunately agree. Me and all my friends lost our well paying high-tech jobs (in Science and Engineering). I know of people loosing jobs and only getting jobs at Wal-Mart and Target. They've had to foreclose on their homes (and no, not "Prime Mortgages" - regular ones that they've had for years). Really, how can a country survive?
I saw another article on how the US will loose globally to India and China and in the Western Hemisphere, Brazil will be the new superpower.
Not surprising at all...

Yey. They've done it right.
120Gig Standalone, so I can upgrade that (As im not bothered about HDMI) stupid HD content is massive.
No mention of Europe yet though, oh well.

No problems with the update on the Mac Pro here...
this deleted my camino bookmarks... they are apparently now in an unreadable format.
This is a Camino bug I believe
Probably this one (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=337750). I've been backing up my bookmarks for awhile now just in case and am using an optimized nightly build with extra logging enabled in the event it does happen (they can obtain more info to find out what is causing it).

Every other teacher in the school is fine with it, it's just that one guy. By taking it off me, I couldn't get my coursework finished. Pretty annoying. I see everyones point that it's his network, but it's a pretty big assumption to assume that a student is 'hacking the network' because he's on a laptop.

I just talked to 3 local best buy's and they all said that we WILL be able to use gift cards towards the purchase of the new iPhone.
Also, they confirmed that they will be doing pre-orders starting on the 15th!

Though you can't tell much from a single screenshot, it looks like the iCal update is more a cosmetic update rather than a feature update. The only new feature I can see in that screenshot is something about new event notifications, but that's hardly what people have been clamoring for.
Actually, if they would fix the bugs in iCal I'd be happy :D
I would expect tighter intregration for the new iCal server, and other backend stuffs, maybe some professionalizing of the interface.

There already a FREE application with LIVE traffic crowd-sourced data, it is called WAZE and it is awesome, at least in Israel.
I guess the question is are there enough iPhones out and about to provide good traffic data?
I mean will there be enough iPhone 3GS/4/(whaever the new version is called), will the traffic information be sent in the background even if I never use the built in Apple application?

If Apple does want to go MVNO, it makes perfect sense to chose cingular. They have the largest digital network in the U.S... perfect for downloads...
Here comes the iPhone..
Cingular sucks. If Apple goes with them, it will be a huge mistake.
7 weeks till our Cingular contract's up!

I'm having the same problem
Not working for me - I'm getting "Router incompatible" even though Elgato says the Apple Airport Express is fine.

Um, so my girlfriend and I have both have the iPhone 3G. We have the same tracking issue by virtue of being on iOS 4.x - but at the current highest OS level for this model, 4.2.1, we don't get a "fix?"
Agreed - what about iPhone 3G users, the sorry lot of us that still exist.

Just bought the 11" Air for the wife as her Windows machine was on its last legs. She wanted something smaller than her old unit and also fancied getting into OS X after using my MacBook. I wanted an Air anyway so it worked out perfect.
I think if I was buying one for use by me more I'd get the 13" model but the 11" is more than usable for writing on. Refurbed 13" models are going for 13" MBP prices. Yes the MBP is more powerful but how much power do I need to write content!?
The 11" is just gorgeous though.

I really hope this is a rental system, but not like Netflix. If they could give me one-day file "rentals" for $1 or $2, this would go from something I'd never even consider using to something I'd use for 95% of my movies...in fact, my movie viewing would probably skyrocket.
I very rarely watch a movie more than once. And at that price, if a movie is so good as to warrant a second viewing (but not good enough to buy the DVD), I wouldn't really mind paying again.

Has anyone experienced frequent Indesign CS2 crashes since updating to 10.4.8 on an Intel Mac? I have a brand new Mac Pro (with 4gb of Ram) here at work and I would say that all the Adobe apps work about as fast as they did on the dual 2ghz G5 Powermac that I had before I got this Mac Pro but now after about 2 months of usage my indesign crashes on me several times a day. I'm just curious if 10.4.8 introduced some kind of compatibility issue with indesign because it didn't crash on me in 10.4.7 (though it is noticeably faster now in 10.4.8 when its not too busy crashing).
