Here's the reality of this non-issue:
Apple is not actually collecting this data, and this hidden file is neither new nor secret.

    Sorry.

Sorry to break it to you but a device that records my location and saves that for reporting back, or for someone else to read is a serious breach of my privacy. As I stated, the police were fully aware of this, making this privacy breach more big brother like then anything else.

If anyone else were doing this, you'd be crying foul so fast but because its your beloved apple, they get a pass for recording your locations

Just FYI, I'm running Aperture with 17k+ images on an iMac 24" 2.1ghz G5 - sometimes slow, but heck i'm doing it and drooling over the 1.5 update

    ...well...I've been using Aperture 1.1 with 765k+ images on a 24" 800mhz G3 and it really rocks!...

I'm assuming you slipped and meant to type 20"...right?

Actually, To be precise...this is the carrier enforcing the contract you made with them. You did sign a contract, right?

I can't tell you how stupid it sounds when someone brings up "TEH CONTRACT"

"don't tell me about contracts wonka, i use them myself, especially for suckers."

The contract is neither here nor there. We all know that when we sign up for service we sign a contract. We're not stupid. This doesn't change a damn thing. We can still point the finger at AT&T and call out the difference between normal profit-motivated business practice, and greedy anti-consumer monopolism.

    Fixed...

If I bring my child in for a checkup, physical, broken arm or runny nose the doctor really has no business asking questions that are not pertinent to the treatment of my child. He certainly has no business asking if I have guns in my house if I bring my kid in there for a physical or runny nose.

Dr Choi made this point, "or if children can't play in their front yard for fear of gun fire, it is my problem too." Maybe his focus is on urban kids who live in high crime areas but given that most of the high profile firearm massacres in the past few years were suburban, it seems silly to split hairs, doesn't it?

Do you feel that it's none of the doctor's business if you use a car seat for your child? What if he asked if you make sure the cleaning supplies and anti-freeze are locked up? Is that irrelevant?

Dr Choi also makes the point that in 30,000 people were killed with guns (http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr58/nvsr58_19.pdf).

In 41,059 people were killed in automobile accidents.

    What are doctors for?

Is this the iHouse prototype? :p

I personally like it. It is simple, and I'll admit, I thought Steve would go lavish. I love the touch with the veggie garden. Tomatoes and spices galore, I say. It sounds like he's going to retire there, and that he's really going for the "retreat" feel.

Applause, even if it means taking down a 1920's mansion. Not everything can be saved forever. It'll exist in memory. What's the point of saving old buildings that won't be used? So they can be cleaned and saved for no one? For people to look at once and leave? Better use of the land. It had its time, and now it's passed.

    Make way for Jobso.

Airport security is on a downward spiral, they really need to rethink the approach. Basic human dignity is being trampled on, the costs involved are skyrocketing and the whole approach just adds to making air travel unpleasant.

Of course we should . The free market would put him/her out of business after they killed enough people.

and it probably would lead to cheaper medical care since doctors would no longer be required to go to medical school or prove they know anything about medicine

You can point out an error and give solution

The goal of the forum is not to give out solutions, sorry. If that is what you are looking for, you're looking for it in the wrong places. We're here to help you figure out how to find the solution yourself (either by pointing out appropriate documentation or by giving hints).

or you can tell that person to quit what he's doing because he has no idea. It's a lot easier to say, go read Apples documentation than to point out an error and explain it yourself.

No one told you to quit and pointing out the documentation often times is better than someone trying to explain it. The documentation will be correct, and why type out an explanation to something Apple already documentation (ie, explained) in the proper terms ?

Now if there's something in the documentation you need help clarifying, please feel free to ask questions about the documentation.

I wouldn't put much faith in the opinions of a person demonstrably unable to coherently express himself.

This was a personal meaning and yes i use logic when i express myself, maybe you're iq is low and you must attack somebody to make you're higher thats youre personal meaning to(low iq as well - haha(dont take it personally). And yes i think the iphone sucks i have had so much telephones over the years and i think it's just a ipod halo effect(like much off apple is).Look at the ipod touch - go figure.
And like allways some guys must have with a spoon.the membersname is ironic...put faith in what you want i dont care..(buddha ore jesus)thats your personal faith..here we go with that spoon - "dadda....
    haha...allways funny.. your sincerly

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8H7)

How would they acquire the data? How would they know this is a young person they actually want to follow? Couldn't they just follow them home from somewhere? Does the person need to lose their phone for a danger to occur? Does this paedophile need to have a phone with them?

The tracking that is occurring is by cell tower identification when someone is in range of one. Will the paedophile have access to a spy satellite to zero in on the exact location of an individual?

    I'm still not buying it.

It is no secret that pedophiles have been known to hack children's computers to gain access to their webcam pictures, messenger conversations and ect. If that child has an iPhone and the said pedophile knows the file that contains the iPhone locations; what the pedo essentially has is the child's daily or weekly routine of where they are.

I buy it. Slim chance, but certainly possible and certainly doable.

After all of the comments about how great Aperture ran, and considering how crappy it was running on mine, I decided to take into the Apple Store.

The video card is defective and they are replacing it. No wonder my experience with the program stunk.

    :)
wow, that's good news (kind of)! hope it improves your experience... :)

It's a little cheeky, sure, but the Design Award isn't really anything but marketing opportunity for the devs.

What needs to happen for these awards to mean anything is for an non-profit industry consortium to take the votes and not be biased with several in the industry that matters voting for it. That is how the Oscars, Emmies and Grammys all came about. Wired tried it with the "Webbies" but the marketing types had too much influence.

In summary, these awards should be retitled, "Third Party App Most Contributing to our Product's Bottom Line."

Just wait, it will eventually play

Ummm.. just out of curiousity.. when you say 'eventually' do you mean 1 minute? 5 minutes? 30 minutes? 90 minutes?

I have been waiting here for 15 minutes and it's still not playing..

You'd think they would just not make it available until they could meet demand..

I just wanted to wish OS X a very Happy B-day!! You were the reason why I went from being a PC A+ Tech working on PC's to now a mac fanatic. Because of you I now have a better understanding of how you work and function..

I look forward to many years more with OS X, but lest not forget also that your big brother OS 9 still loves you and that you came out of that sibling rivalry between your older brother..

Happy Birthday to OS X and many many more!

Proud owner of G5 Quad running OS X Tiger and Leopard, G4 Pismo running OS 9, Cheetah, Puma, Jaguar, and Tiger. Power Book G4 1.67 running Tiger on one drive and Leopard on another.. and to my Mac Pro 2010 6-core for running Snow Leopard and soon Lion..

Unlike many of you, I consider my PPC macs and Intel brothers and not enemies.. one is not obsolete over the other.. so long as each on of these machines has life left in them(doing basics and other stuff you throw at them), they are NEVER truly obsolete. One testament as to why I really love Apple and Mac :)

They might get laughed at but apple will be the ones laughing when their the first to debut santa rosa with 800mhz fsb and nand flash. Hopefully this is whats going to happen
I hope that does happen, but I also hope for a revision before that.

Would love to see a revision of the iMacs around the time of MWSF to the above too, pre-installed with Leopard. I'd be all over that around March time.

My router is having some trouble, seems to quit working whenever I'm at work  I bought a new one on ebay, hope it gets here SOON!

dang. i've had good luck with my apple extreme routers so far

i pay $130aus a month ($~110 US) for 50GB of downloads! (adsl2+). at least i hit the speeds.

    are you on cable lord?

dang that's a lot of money. but fast speeds also. i don't think they even offer those speeds around here

Yes I'm on cable, I did have dsl a couple of years ago but the company couldn't offer anything faster than 10gb/s at a higher price.

yeah dsl is slower around here also

He thinks he is female which is a whole other thing

Oh boy- the ignorance displayed in this forum sometimes can be staggering.

I bolded a key word in your quote. IMO

I'm not looking to stir anything up, so stop insinuating.

Just because I have a different opinion from you doesn't justify your annoying statement, "your act is wearing thin"

Really guy? I could care less about what you think so stop -__-

You certainly do come off as less than compassionate. That's for sure.
