Go look at Pages; Word's been the "standard" for years and Pages can write Word documents. I'm sure if Lasso, Numbers, Charts, etc. will also be able to save in Excel documents. I believe AppleWorks can, and if this is a step up, and since the world has moved a little more, there should be no problem with Excel and Apple's new application.
There are still two problems:
1) While Pages and Keynote may be exported to Word and Powerpoint, it is not flawless. When working with word documents and presentations small changes may not matter significantly, but when dealing with numbers, there is ZERO room for error.
2) Pages and Keynote (and it seems the "Lasso") are all targeted at the non-experienced computer user. Unfortunately, for the most part, that is the exact opposite audience who use spreadsheets.

The problem is that Microsoft doesn't know how to play from behind the competition, especially with a device that only serves one purpose and can't really be improved enough to catch people's attention. It was a silly decision to jump in the market so late in the game.
Bingo. Microsoft saw another industry that was making money so they decided to jump in to try and cash in the new cow.
Considering that both Sony and Microsoft have a diverse range of products (game consoles, phones, computers, software), it's surprising that neither of them have been able to make larger strides with their respective offerings.
I've only known two people who owned a Zune. One was a Windows sysadmin (now interested in iOS development), and the other was a person who likely was trying to avoid the mainstream by NOT getting an iPod.

Thanks for the tip and yes, that's exactly what I did. Macbook Air has a tiny hard drive and I was running out of space. I will need to buy another 1TB hard drive to backup my TC going forward!
Ah, the air..yes and hard to upgrade to a bigger drive if i remember right. its unfortunate but yeah if its going to be a storage drive then you should back the storage drive too.
I'd back up your music off your iphone ASAP. One cant have enough backups.

Actually I have 3 T-Mobile phones, each has GPS for use in E-911. Its a new federally mandated requirement.
No, it isn't, and they may have GPS but that's a coincidence and I can tell you flat out that T-Mobile does not use GPS to locate your phone.
The Federally Mandated Requirement is that the mobile operator is able to locate your position. The technology they use is up to them. GSM operators do it via triangulation. E911 is supposed to work regardless of how old the phone is that you're using. Do you think your 1980s Motorola brick AMPS phone has a GPS receiver in it?

thanks arn! I know I, as well as many MANY others will enjoy the new forum. I dont think the sites layout is as bad as you make it seem... I find it to be the best there is, which is why I started going here instead of other rumor sites the most.
Though it would be nice to have the different rumors listed category wise...;)

Any reason to keep it? It'll just use up power while generating heat and noise.
I previously had 4 DVI out's, three for the desktop and used the 4th for my HDTV when watching content from Hulu, Miro and within iTunes or via Front Row.

$40 sounds about right for labor. The little mini can be a pain to work on. Alternatively, you could try replacing it yourself. Chances are, the bluetooth works fine, and is just disconnected.
I just now took it apart and saw that it was disconnected. I attached it, but the BT still doesn't work. I probably didn't attach it to the right connection, or something else is amiss. I'm kind of tired of messing with it, and would rather a pro work on it at this point.

I'm trying to help my cousin set up his new dental practice with audio and video equipment. He wants two sources and individual volume control in each room. I'm trying to find a nice way to do this for not a lot of money. Does anyone have experience with this? I could use some help finding the right components.
Is there any existing equipment to work with or is this all fresh? Also, what is the budget? Does he want Audio and Video in each room or just audio? What kind of media is to be streamed (TV, music, radio, DVDs, CDs, Existing media - think itunes)?

The only problem that I've seen with the new site are the random glitches I get involving differently colored boxes around the borders and such. Besides that, it seems really nice. I like the more modern look, I just fall into that camp that isn't as thrilled with the addition of the third column because of space/readability reasons, but I am already getting more used to it and within a few days I am sure it will be like second nature to browse the site for the information I am looking for.

Well that's all find and dandy, but if you want to share your purchased music with your office so they can listent to your library, your out of luck.. That's sad and should be fixed..
I think what you are saying is that you want to share your purchased music with others in your office that didn't purchase the music, but I'm not sure. Try rewriting your post. Assuming that what I think you are saying is what you are actually saying, the issue of not being able to share is not something that is broken, and therefore can not be "fixed." Not being able to stream the music is part of the DRM of the iTunes Music Store. You are allowed to play the file on up to 5 computers, not stream it to an unlimited number.

Just out of curiosity, what do you want a new Cinema Display for, exactly, that the current ones aren't doing?
Reason I ask is because you seem pretty eager about it, but haven't really clarified your need.
Well, having had iMacs for the last few years the glossy screen is pushing me to a Mac Pro. I'm ready for the ACD 30" but am very concerned by the threads on the Apple Discussion lists about the "dancing pixels" etc (2.5 years and growing). It almost seems like there are no good ACD 30's out there.
I was hoping a product refresh would give Apple a chance to solve the bugs without having to admit there is a problem (at the moment they seem to be in denial)
I would have welcomed a built-in iSight. The original iSight stressed how much better it was than the competition (better fps, better contrast, better reaction to lo-light), seems like Apple has given up on pro users who want to video conference without extra cables and attachments sprouting out of an elegant aluminium bezel :-(
As a designer, i'm drawn to the colour reviews for the ACD 30 (swop LUT etc) but am nervous laying down GBP1199. Seems like some folks are on their 3rd dislay and are still unhappy.
I might hang on to see if there are any reports of the Geforce 8800 "curing" the problem before I dive in

I have been a Windows Phone user since day 1 when it was launched and to be honest, Microsoft beat Apple at their own game. Making a shiny awesome looking software. To be honest, because of WP I am sure I won't by any other OS. I mean, all other OS(s) look so 2007 now, especially the iPhone.I just can't buy anything else, it feels outdated.
In the end, I sold my WP (HTC HD7) in late February because of the ****** battery (yes..1230 mAh in a 4.3" screen !! but I didn't expect to be that crap) and my next touchscreen phone would a Nokia WP, that coming somewhere in mid 2012 at eariest ..
Anyway, my point is to do not underestimate Zune. It's a very good software, modern. It's just that Microsoft is ..well..not very good with marketing I guess..
